Roadtrip to Bessang Pass

Bessang Pass
Cervantes, Ilocos Sur
January 30, 2016

Before the month end, adventure begins. I heard about Bessang Pass from a friend, saying it has picture-perfect view. From there, a plan started in my
mind.

Bessang Pass National Monument/Memorial shrine is located at Cervantes, Ilocos Sur, which *served as General Yamashita’s last ditch defense during the last stage of World War II.

*The monument was built to commemorate the 3400 soldiers who fought and died to defeat the Japanese Troops led by Gen Tumoyuki Yamashita himself which ended last June 14 1945.

The road to Bessang Pass although long, uphill and curvy, was very scenic. You can see the mountains surrounding the place. We got there after lunch time and fog already started to enshroud the place. We used motorcyle that’s why we were able to see the scenic view. It was such a roadtrip!

To get there, either from Manila or Laoag, get down at Bitalag Junction at Barangay Bitalag, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. At Bitalag junction take a passenger Van going to Cervantes. Or if you have your own ride, just follow the road and have your road trip adventure.
